On the Fringe

(NEW YORK) The UK’s Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden program is comparable to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards stateside--namely, if you don’t know the nominees’ names now, you will very soon. (Erdem and Basso & Brooke have won in previous years.) Today, the nominees for the organization’s 2009 Accessories Award were announced by judges Tamara Mellon, Fashion Fringe head Colin McDowell, ELLE U.K. editor in chief Lorraine Candy, Rupert Sanderson, The Daily Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander, and Sebastian Manes, director of accessories at Selfridges. Kerrie Luft, Helen Robotham, Monisola Omboso of Pamela Pea, Heather Blake, and Anna Kichenside of Anna are all nominated for the award, which will land the winner a six-month apprenticeship at Jimmy Choo. “Bags and shoes are such a driving force in fashion,” McDowell told ELLE U.K. “I felt we should do our bit to find people who are good at it.” The winner will be announced next Friday, May 22.
