Flower Power
(NEW YORK) The city has already suffered plenty from April's thunderstorms, so May's flowers better be worth the hassle. This year, the blooms will go to good use, as Tory Burch, Chado Ralph Rucci, Pamella Roland, Cynthia Steffe, Lilly Pulitzer, Alvin Valley, Thierry Mugler, Zang Toi, Michael Vollbracht, b.michael and more will team up with Preston Bailey, L’Olivier, Ovando, Zezé and more of New York’s revered florists to create over-the-top headdresses entirely from living plants and fresh flowers. The cause is certainly more than a green-thumbed arts and crafts project; the creations will be presented in a runway show as part of Village Care of New York's 8th Annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser, "Tulips & Pansies: A Headdress Affair," taking place May 14 at the Edison Ballroom.
Chaired by Kelly Cutrone and USA Weekend and TV Guide editor Jack Curry, the event will include a healthy dose of competition: surprise guest judges will honor the headdress design teams in the categories of Most Beautiful, Most Original, Most Entertaining and Most Outrageous.
