No Governors at Guess!
(NEW YORK) Georges Marciano may have co-founded denim megabrand GUESS back in 1981, but the company wants to be clear that the California Governor hopeful has absolutely nothing to do with the brand at this juncture. According to a statement sent out this morning, “GUESS, Inc. would like to clarify that Georges Marciano is no longer a part of GUESS, Inc. and has not been a part of the company, nor has he had any relationship directly or indirectly with GUESS in 16 years. Furthermore, Maurice Marciano, Chairman of the Board of GUESS, Inc. and Paul Marciano, Chief Executive Officer, have not been in contact with Georges in the last 8 years.” Perhaps the lawsuit filed by Geroges against his brothers after he left the company in 1993 (for allegedly infringing on the Georges Marciano trademark) still hasn’t been forgiven?
Georges Marciano filed the official paperwork on Monday to run as an independent candidate for the Governor of California in 2010, when current Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's term ends. “The company of GUESS, Inc., including Maurice and Paul Marciano are not a part of Georges candidacy for Governor of California,” the release continued, “and do not plan on being involved in the campaign in the future.”
