Moschino's New Man
(NEW YORK) Alessandro Varisco has been appointed the new managing director of Moschino S.p.A., as announced today by Aeffe S.p.A. chairman Massimo Ferretti. Varisco, who was named general manager at Roberta di Camerino last summer, has previously worked for such companies as Gianfranco Ferrè and Versace. “I welcome Alessandro Varisco,” said Ferretti in a statement, “who, I am positive, will undertake his new position with dedication and competence, providing a further enthusiasm within our group.” In the same statement, Varisco commented, “I am pleased to take this new challenge and I trust that dynamism and organization will lead us to achieve important company outturns.”
Varisco has his work cut out for him; Aeffe’s earnings fell to 49% for 2008, which led to a series of recent layoffs that greatly reduced numbers of the firm's sales and public relations teams. With business down at Aeffe-owned brands Pollini, Jean Paul Gaultier, Blugirl, Authier and Basso + Brooke, the company is showing a renewed focus on its best performers like Alberta Ferretti, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti and Moschino.
