The Return of Vionnet
(NEW YORK) “With Vionnet I would like to bring back to life an idea of fashion that is contemporary without forgetting its history,” said Matteo Marzotto, president of Enit, the Italian State Tourist Board, who has just announced his acquisition of the legendary French brand. “Reinvigorating the extraordinary and innovative elegance that marked Madeleine Vionnet’s work, expressing the true meaning of European culture and its ability to create and enjoy beautiful things and important values.” The first Vionnet collection under this new ownership will be presented in June, and will consist of both ready to wear and accessories, helmed by Prada womenswear alum Rodolfo Paglialunga.
This isn’t the first time the house has been resurrected after its initial close at the beginning of World War II. However, its last incarnation in 2008, designed by an in-house team after Sophia Kokosalaki’s attempt, was met with less than favorable reviews.
