Ungaro - Paris Spring 2010
(PARIS) Essentially as expected. Ungaro's artistic advisor Lindsay Lohan and designer Estrella Archs cobbled together a collection of sexy, unsophisticated little dresses and the like. Heart-shaped pasties were involved. Same with vaguely draped stuff. Ungaro used to mean very much to Paris, and as the brand tries to reinvent itself as a shameless cash generator, well, the fashion set is reacting predictably. It is more than a little uncomfortable to watch the star of films like Freaky Friday trot down this particular runway. A leggings line? Sure. But Ungaro deserves better. This too shall pass, but where will the brand be then? Hiring Olivier Theyskens and attempting to regain some fashion cred? Closing down freestanding stores and developing a bridge line? Focusing entirely on fragrance? It's all a little dizzying, but at any rate, Ungaro is making news.
