Uma Thurman Is Having A Very Marilyn Monroe Year
Billy Farrell Agency View Gallery
Uma/Chopard! Chopard/Uma! New mommy Uma Thurman and Chopard celebrated an exclusive viewing of "Marilyn Forever" at their Madison Avenue store earlier this week. Rare photos of Marilyn Monroe hung on the store's wall from photographer Milton Green's private collection. Before dinner we sat down with Thurman to find out what was going on with all this Marilyn in her orbit.
What's your relationship with Chopard?
I did some stuff with them in Cannes two year ago and I wore them on the red steps. They have a special relationship with the Cannes Film Festival. When I was a juror there, we started a friendship and I wore them on the red carpet and this is the tail end of those things.
You were on Smash this year as an actress playing Marilyn Monroe and you read from her diary in the documentary Love, Marilyn…
It's like Marilyn is everywhere!
What's that about?
The more the Marilyner!
Did you just think of that?
Even with this much progesterone in my head, I can occasionally not falter in the middle of a sentence! It's very rare these days. Pregnancy doesn't end with pregnancy. It continues. Not that you need to know that. It's my backhanded way of apologizing without thinking with fluid thoughts.
Good to know!
Marilyn's death was 50 years ago. That's bringing back a real culmination of people rethinking her. I always had the highest respect for her work from the time when I was younger and I watched her. If you're an actor or actress, a word I'm not afraid of, the "s" in actress, you can see how incredible her performances were and how full and seamless and how alive. That's not easy. This is the moment of Marilyn again.
Are you going back to work anytime soon?
I'm reading things! I'm looking for dramatic roles. I've done a lot of different things in my career. I have a very soft spot for comedy. If somebody gives me a comedy and I laugh once while reading it, I'll probably do it. I'm trying to go backwards to my original passion for dramatic roles.
What Academy screeners have you liked?
Let me wait to answer that! I want to see a few more things before I weigh in.
