Twelve Plus Fiddy
(NEW YORK) Between the Obama motorcade bound for Anna Wintour's townhouse, and the entire cast of Gossip Girl at The Cinema Society screening of Twelve, camera-phone wielding tourists had an embarrassment of riches on East Houston Street last night.
At the latter, Chace Crawford was clearly the draw. “No one invited Obama to our party anyway!” kidded director Joel Schumacher at the 2(x)ist sponsored bash after complaining about the gridlock that delayed the screening for 45 minutes. “I’m a Cinema Society regular but this whole press line thing as an actor is a little bit tiring,” said cast member Zoe Kravitz in between her wait. “I just want my popcorn!”
The extra wait time allowed Crawford a chance to ponder his own face on the movie's promotional poster. “Look at all that hair!" he said, while ripping an errant Dolce & Gabbana tag off his jacket. "It’s disgusting!”
The movie, of course, isn't about his facial hair, but about a group of underage Upper East Siders, their drug dealers, and their awful rich parents. “My own parents couldn’t be more different than these people,” assured Crawford. “We were just in New York with my mom and my great-grandmother. I took them to see Jimmy Fallon and then we took one of those scenic Central Park horse rides yesterday.” His clan stayed behind last night, however, while Crawford sat in a row full of GG cast mates like Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Jessica Szohr, Michelle Trachtenberg, with Leighton Meester joining the film’s star later that night.
Other familiar faces at Landmark Sunshine included Mickey Rourke (who went on a beer run halfway through the movie), Alex Wang, Jessica Stam, Hana Soukupova, Amy Astley, Nicole Miller, Heide Lindgren, Tyson Ballou, Irina Shayk, Rob Thomas, and Alison Pill. But even with all those fashion faces in attendance, the film’s female lead Emily Meade decided to do something no young actress has done before in ages. “I was looking around for a dress and couldn’t really find anything that I liked,” she said. “So I decided to make one myself. I went to this East Village place called Search & Destroy, found this oversized schmatta, and decided to rework it a little bit. “
She had a chance to model her pink creation one more time at The Standard’s Le Bain for the film’s well-attended after-bash. Ewan McGregor, Donna Karan, Wilmer Valderama, New York Jet Mark Sanchez, Andre Balázs, Mamie Gummer, and Lourdes’ dad, Carlos Leon, were among the swells enjoying the mostly outdoor bash complete Moet Ice Imperial and Standard burgers. Liam McMullan celebrated his big supporting role with his friends and proud papa, Patrick, while the film’s blood thirsty villain Billy Magnussen reminisced about his own teenage days while surveying the skyline.
“When I was in my early teens I was still going through puberty,” he said. “I was also probably an asshole!” No such term could be applied to 50 Cent, who happily greeted his awestruck fan base. “I think I got two of the most quotable lines in the movie and a good suit on,” he boasted. “So life is good, baby!”
