New York Fall 2011: Vivienne Tam, Charlotte Ronson, G-Star Raw
(NEW YORK) Vivienne Tam
In a classic palette of black and white, with moments of red embroidery, Tam took inspiration for Fall 2011 from the ancient Kun opera house in Shanghai and the spacey Zaha Hadid-designed Guangzhou Opera. The shimmery frocks boasted collarbone-framing embroidery and sheer detailing, perfect for a night of high-minded culture. Hair was teased and messily piled atop the models’ heads, while bold eyeliner swooped upward against their pale complexions. All told, a theatrical display.
Charlotte Ronson
The 1990s in all its grunge glory cropped up yet again on Charlotte Ronson’s runway. Cuffed tweed shorts with corresponding shrunken blazers were layered over cheeky burnout tights in olive and raspberry; slouchy bags with long, swinging tassels were tossed over fairly structured ensembles. And naturally, Young Hollywood was out in force. A roster of friends and fans including Kim Kardashian, Olivia Munn, Mena Suvari, and Sophia Bush came along for the ride.
G-Star Raw
Taking a cue from urban life in the 1920s, G-Star Raw’s NY RAW collection, “Metropolitan Explorer,” throttled forward with rugged new proportions for denim and outerwear. Most pants in the futuristic, almost quirky collection, like the mens’ New Charlie Pant, featured an exaggerated, sculptural knee quite similar to Rollerblade pads. Stiffly constructed jumpsuits for men and body-conscious shorts in thick cable knits for women created a contradiction of sass and sex appeal.
