(NEW YORK) Whitney Biennial doesn't come around every day, but when it does Madison turns into controlled mayhem. The Museum's VIP opening night drew so many guests that the museums guards had to treat the lower party space as entrance to Boom Boom at one point. And savvy Barbara Gladstone parked her town car driver right outside the front doors for quick escape. "I never miss this," claimed rested Chloe Sevigny. "It's a pretty extraordinary exhibit but as the space keeps populating, my head keeps spinning. I'm coming back during the weekend."

But at least the museum's four floors were stocked with quality space fillers. We’re talking Gallery district regulars (Andrea Rosen, Kim Heirston, Yvonne Force Villareal, Lisa Anastos), more than few fashion folks (Cynthia Rowley, Adam Lippes, Terry Richardson, Roopal Patel), and few scruffy celebs (Leelee Sobieski and Michael Stipe). Indgrid Sischy and Sandy Brant took a last breath before their European caravan. “This is our last treat before Milan,” said Brant. “We leave tomorrow!”

In a very impressive show consisting of 55 artists this year, Claude Morais and Brian Wolk easily found their favorite. “I just knew Hannah Greely was Californian,” exclaimed Wolk. “As soon as I saw her sculpture, I connected with it. And then I looked as the wall signage and she was Cali, like I internally predicted.”  Meanwhile, Richard Phillips and Biennial star Josephine Meckseper (one of New York’s top art power couples) held court on the second floor. “I’m just advertising Josephine tonight,” joked Phillips. “It feels like a really good year to be part of the Biennial,” offered Meckseper. “Not just because there are so many women involved, but because it’s actually a really well curated show. Every artist has their own chance to shine and really showcase their work this year.”

At about 10:30 PM, the sponsoring family this year (Tommy Hilfiger, Dee Ocleppo, and Ally Hilfiger) led the troops to the designer’s Fifth Avenue Flagship for a nightcap.  And the night wasn’t the complete until Pae White shared a cocktail with Rosario Dawson. Just as life should be…
