Let's Go to the Hop
(NEW YORK) “It’s like every kid is cuter than the last!” one guest exclaimed last night during The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s 19th Annual Bunny Hop. The beloved Fifth Avenue FAO Schwarz was transformed into a fantasy carnival land, attracting children and adults alike including Melania Trump, Kelly Rutherford and Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss. Sponsored by Papo D’Anjo, all proceeds from the evening will benefit the Pediatric Family Housing Endowment. The springtime celebration fell fittingly on one of the warmest days of the year so far, getting everyone into the spirit. A firm supporter, Tina Fey served as the honorary chair. She laughed and motioned towards her Derek Lam frock, “I didn’t have the guts to go bare legged. I thought, it’s almost spring! Then I thought, nope, too pale.”
Dressed in their Sunday best, kids were treated to a wonton bar, mini hot dogs and plenty of candy, balloon art, face painting, manicures, a dress up station, and hugs from the Easter Bunny himself. Rutherford, with baby Helena Grace in tow, was in heaven, perusing the darling ensembles. She admitted, “I love shopping for Easter Sunday clothes for my kids. It’s terrible; it’s like an addiction! I walk by store windows and think, I’ll just go in and see what they have…” Trump smiled as son Barron frolicked through the store. “He loves airplanes and trucks, and of course, the candy. I have a sweet tooth, too, sometimes. Barron shares his candy with me.”
Fey and daughter Alice hit the buffet, filling up on fruit kebabs and PB&Js, and Fey reminisced about her Easters as a kid. “We celebrated Greek Easter growing up, which was always confusingly on a different day than regular Easter. My holiday tradition was explaining to all the kids why I didn’t celebrate when they did and why all of our Easter eggs were red instead of pastel.” The kids, elated at the sight of candy and toys, hopped and bounced along to the kicky music, but the parents saved the dancing for the midnight hour. “I never have done the bunny hop dance,” Trump admitted. “I need to learn!”
