Kors Night
(NEW YORK) All hail Kors! Where was the colossal Michael Kors fan club meeting last night in Manhattan? 25 Broadway! His ardent supporters braved a little rain to come out to the Great Hall to celebrate his Golden Heart Lifetime Achievement award from God’s Love We Deliver. Since 1985 the charity has been the tri-state area’s leading provider of nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. “Back in the eighties when the AIDS crisis hit, they were really the first people to contend with,” Kors told The Daily last night. “You had people that had no family or friends, were housebound, and couldn’t get a meal. They never asked questions. They always gave an immediate response. If you’re having a problem, they’re over there for you. They’re kind of like the neighbors you wish you had. In New York those fabulous neighbors are a fantasy, but here it’s a reality.“
In addition to being honored, it was revealed that Kors made a whopping $5 million contribution to the org, which is one of the largest single donations to a social service organization in New York history. In recognition of the gift, God’s Love will be renaming its home “The Michael Kors Building” in early 2013. He also (literally) puts his money where his mouth is by volunteering with them: “I’ve chopped! I’ve delivered! I’ve done it all!" How's the grub? "The food’s divine. The brownies are so good that the only way to eat them is if you’re on a bicycle at Soul Cycle!”
Out celebrating the designer for drinks, dinner, and a silent auction were a few of his closest VIP friends such as Anna Wintour, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler, Robert De Niro (in jeans!), Olivia Munn, Lynda Carter, Glenda Bailey, Linda Wells, Nina Garcia, Karlie Kloss, Chanel Iman, Karolina Kurkova, Constance Jablonski, Tyson Ballou, Brooklyn Decker, Erin Heatherton, Graydon Carter, Blaine Trump, Cody Horn, Pattie Hansen, Aerin Lauder, and Alexandra Richards. "I've met him socially at these kinds of things," Seth Meyers told us about Kors. "I wouldn't call him one of my best friends, but I hope to make his top five! I'll find out tonight. I'll ask him." Glee creator Ryan Murphy was presented with the Golden Heart Award for Community Service by his friend Paltrow. “I always feel it’s very strange to get an award for charitable things,” Murphy told us. “My connection to this organization means a lot to me because I’m doing the movie version of The Normal Heart and this was the first group of people during the early AIDS era, particularly women, that really stood up and helped that community. It means a lot to me." While we had Murphy, we were curious if he’s as big of a fan of Vogue as the editors at 4 Times Square are of Glee. “I read it religiously!" he enthusiastically told us. “Since I was five years old! I used to steal them from the library when I was growing up.” There were also some little names being celebrated like Cindy Little who was recognized with the award for Outstanding Volunteerism. The event ended up raising over $1.35 million, which is sure to feed a lot of golden hearts. EDDIE ROCHE
