Going Green

(NEW YORK) The crowd at MoMA last night was certainly going green, but perhaps not in the sustainable, Earth-Day sense. Cast members and friends shuffled over to the museum last night after the premiere of Shrek Forever After at the Ziegfeld Theater, the fourth and final installment in the Shrek series. While Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy had to dash out post-screening, Mike Myers and Antonio Banderas joined Robert DeNiro, Jane Rosenthal and director Mike Mitchell to fête the evening over cocktails and a never-ending buffet. And while the theme was green, dinner and drinks were not dyed to match the evening. “I’m glad the chicken isn’t green," sighed one relieved reveller. "That would be too much."

Myers dropped the ogre act, and was as humble and gracious as ever. “I feel very, very happy and gratified,” he smiled. “I am so grateful to be a part of this series of films, and I think that the filmmakers care so much about the quality.” There was a sense of finality in the room, and Myers agreed. “Yes, it does feel like the end. It’s a very elegant, final thought to conclude the series.” Banderas embraced friend DeNiro while Melanie Griffith waited patiently in the buffet line, as guests indulged in a buffet fit for an ogre, including macaroni and cheese, roast beef, tortellini, cold cuts, mini burgers and themed cocktails. The “Far Far Away Fizz” was the biggest hit of the evening—a medley of grenadine and vodka.

As if the buffet weren’t enough, a queue wrapped around the patio as partygoers lined up at the outdoor taco stand. Bizarrely enough, the Scrubs clan dominated the scene. Zach Braff and Donald Faison grabbed chimichangas and then sauntered upstairs into the Marina Ambramovic exhibition. While most of the partygoers had Shrek on the brain, Faison explained that if he had to choose between a night out on the town with the green ogre or Robert DeNiro, it would be DeNiro all the way. “I would try and get into a fight so I could watch him stomp somebody out Goodfellas style!”
