(NEW YORK) This morning, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren announced an exclusive partnership between Sean John and the retail giant, effective October 2010. Beginning with a Spring 2011 collection, Macy’s will be the exclusive American department store retailer for the Sean John’s menswear collections and extensive brand shops will be set up at Macy’s flagships in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Miami, among other locations. “We’ve already moved over a billion dollars worth of merchandise in Macy’s over the last decade or so,” said Combs. “With this deal, I’m hoping we can move at least few more billion. I’m very excited because this was eleven years in the making for me. And I honestly can say this one of the best business decisions that I have ever made.”

Combs approached Lundgren with the potential exclusivity idea earlier this year, and the CEO signed on---though it’s not always this easy. “We turn away about 95% of these invitations,” said the Macy’s head. “It has to be right for us and we need to make sure that in the long run this will be successful for both parties.”  Combs will continue to focus on what he does best: catering to an 18 to 35-year-old male clientele. “Our collections are from the block to the boardroom,” he said at the press event at The Standard. “Now, let’s celebrate with champagne. It’s always good to have a glass before lunch!”
