Congratulations! How did this collaboration come about?
This is so exciting! When I walked into the room today and saw the collection set up, it kind of caught me off guard for a moment, and I was just like, oh my, this is happening! It started off last May when my dear friend Barbara Hulanicki, the woman who gave us all Biba back in the '60s, introduced me to Mindy [Grossman]. We had lunch in Florida and got on brilliantly. I had just done a stylebook about how to look fabulous after forty, gave it to Mindy, and then she said we’ve got to team up.

And you’re coming into this with plenty of television experience, as well.
I had never been to the studios before this. You’ve got to go to HSN. It’s absolutely mind-boggling. It’s a city, really. I could live there, I think. I would just shop everyday. I met the team when I went out to Florida, and we all got together. When you have an idea like this, you think, okay, how do we get this off the ground? We thought the best way to start this would be to take a look at some of my favorite pieces from my wardrobe.

So the collection was inspired by your own closet?
Yes, I’m fairly casual in the way that I dress and they wanted it to reflect that. I love anything funky and comfortable. I really wanted to do a tote bag, and the Union Jack design was the obvious go-to. We started with the traditional flag and then did a funkier version with the pink, silver and orange, which I love. I also love anything vintage, and so I showed them an old vintage top of mine and we created this great embroidered waistcoat from that.

The pieces are peppered with so many personal touches.
Oh yes, on the totes we have these little charms, and there is a black cat charm after my lucky kitty cat. And you’ll see my roses everywhere. I actually had a rose named after me last year. It was propagated last summer. They came to me and said, can we name a rose after you? And I said, oh, of course! When I met my husband 24 years ago he gave me a bouquet of pink roses, and so now we have the Twiggy Rose. They asked what type I would like, and I said it’s got to be pink and it’s got to smell sweet. I simply don’t see the point of being a rose if you don’t smell lovely.
