(NEW YORK) “I think I’m high on all the good energy I’ve been part of during the last few days,” shared an excited Isabel Toledo at the Indochine lunch Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovits threw in honor of the designer and her husband, Ruben Toledo. For nine months, the couple has been tirelessly working to complete Toledo’s exhibit at FIT that finally opened yesterday. “We’re used to doing everything ourselves,” said Ruben. “But then suddenly we had to work with publicists and publishers and make sure that every credit of every dress was correct and in place. So for everything to be finally in the museum is a joy--and a relief.”

And the couple celebrated their accomplishment in style with the help of the Paper family. The annual gathering brought out the likes of Narciso Rodriguez, Tatum O’Neal, Iris Apfel, Doo-Ri Chung, Sally Singer, Mark Holgate, and Nicole Miller. “I saw the show yesterday and it was breathtaking,” gushed Rodriguez. “And I think I decided that I won’t ever be able to do a solo show like that myself, because Isabel set such a high standard.” Hastreiter agreed. “I’ve known these two for 30 years and they just keep getting better and better,” she said. “They always grow in the best of ways.”

Other friendly faces from the magazine like Mickey Boardman and Luigi Tadini kept company with friends during a family-style meal of pineapple and shrimp salad, hanger steak, grilled salmon, and sorbet. Ruben made the entire guest list sign Isabel’s exhibit book, while Libby Haan and Robin Givhan discovered the common desire to compete in The Amazing Race, and young design duo of Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs discussed the Summer Bikini Fridays in their new offices. And many guests divulged their next summer destinations. “I’ll be living in Manchester, England for a project this summer,” offered Terrence Koh.  The Toledos have a getaway of their own. “After all this FIT craziness, we’re going to Seattle in July,” said Isabel. “We’ll be resident artists there for a month and Washington State will be our new little home.”
