(NEW YORK) The fashion set is perenially on the lookout for the Next Big Shoe, and it appears that Brazilian designer Alexandre Birman is poised to be the chosen purveyor. Yesterday afternoon, the dapper heir to the Arezzo corporation hosted a ladies' luncheon at Bergdorf Goodman, which is now carrying his eponymous line.

Roopal Patel, Filipa Fino and even newly-minted Bazaarette Tallulah Willis dropped in for a decadent feast of mushroom tarte (drizzled with truffle oil), lobster salad and assorted sorbet. "A lunch like this is a little decadent," warned Patel, "But it's nothing like how we eat in Milan!" As market editors like Kate Davidson Hudson and Heather Mnuchin discussed the frenzy of resort season, others were content to gaze at the shoes. (Birman is known for his luxurious snakeskin.)

Jim Gold emerged from behind the velvet curtains, separating the chosen few from the rest of the lunch crowd, greeting the designer before returning to the work at hand. "With a crowd like this," said Birman, "I really should come to New York more often."
