(NEW YORK) Red-hot HRH Prince Harry of Wales has evidently been burning up the New York scene during his first official visit to the U.S., and Saturday proved to be a marquee appearance for the chic set at the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Challenge on Governors Island. Celebrating the island's 400th anniversary, slews of pony play fans boarded ferries to the island and then were shuttled to the playing field in miniature trollies to be greeted by bustling champagne booths, signature Veuve lawn chairs and HRH's ultra-VIP tent called The Royal Encampment. Inside, The Daily spotted Kate Hudson, Chloë Sevigny, Hilary Rhoda, Alek Wek, Glenda Bailey, Peter Brant, Rachel Roy, Holly Dunlap and even LL Cool J, who happily chatted and took photos with various guests.

But the true star was HRH himself. Crowds amassed to get a glimpse, and while he did spend plenty of time chatting with in-tent admirers, the Prince eventually ambled out onto the picnic lawn to survey the field and meet the masses. "I need to be hanging out with you on this trip!" he quipped to an LVMH nightlife manager. Maybe next time? Then he was off to prepare for the coming game as beaming VIPs spread out blankets for a sun-filled lunch on the lawn. Meanwhile in the tent, the premiere fashion table assembled with Marc Jacobs (donning very Prince-like boots--as in the artist) and Lorenzo Martone were seated next to David Lauren and Elizabeth Berkley, Donna Karan and daughter Gabby, and Kelly Klein. And then the queen of pop Madonna caused quite the ruckus when she showed during the third chucker with an entourage that included sons Rocco and David as well as Jesus Luz and Steven Klein.

But what was happening out on the pitch? Secondary polo icon Nacho Figueras headed up team Black Watch in the match to raise funds for HRH's charity Sentebale which helps orphans and children in Lesotho. We asked Figeuras--donned in head-to-toe Ralph Lauren (natch)--if he'd take it easy on HRH in the name of charity. "Of course not," he said, smiling. Unfortunately, HRH would eventually score the winning shot at the very last moment of the game and managed to get a playful jib at Figueras at the winners circle by spitting a shot of Veuve at him. Fear not, they hugged it out...after showering each other with champers. Now that's alcohol abuse!
