(NEW YORK) Waris Ahluwalia described last night’s Matthew Williamson for H&M summer collection as a “a night in Acapulco,” and Lisa Salzer joked that it was like “a glorious Miami bar mitzvah." The colorful adjectives and superlatives were endless, but one thing was clear. Nearly everyone who boarded The Cornucopia Majesty liner last night enjoyed themselves--some, a little excessively. The early summer soiree at the South Street Seaport featured everything from coconut and pineapple drinks offered in the fruits themselves to playful photo booths to endless trays of macaroons and mango sorbet. “I’m usually not a Carnival kind of gal,” smiled Selita Ebanks as she took in her surroundings. “But this is so energizing, eclectic, and colorful--just like Matthew!”

Alex de Betak and his team arrived in New York last Thursday to prepare the final touches. The show producer even hired 50 sailors to salute the boarding passengers. “We went everywhere from downtown to Queens," de Betak explained of his prop sourcing. “But it was worth it. And I couldn’t have had a more perfect day even if I controlled the clouds.” Beautiful weather and an impressive setting drew an impressive crowd of Lucy Liu, Mary Kate Olsen, Helena Christensen, Adrien Brody, Alexis Bledel, Bar Refaeli, Lily Donaldson, Charlotte Sarkozy, and Chanel Iman. “I hope the boat doesn’t leave without me!” joked the late-arriving Iman.

The stationary ship stayed by the pier, of course. Inside, Williamson created his own little fan section. “Only Matthew can inspire me to pull something colorful out my closet,” smiled the designer's lucky date for the evening (and ad campaign face!) Daria Werbowy. “But he rocks in every way possible. But I don’t know if I’m more excited about him or Grace Jones tonight. I’m an '80s music junkie.” Williamson was just as excited for the event's big performer. "She's a legend and it's a very special night,” he gushed. “I feel very much honored to be part of the whole thing, really!” Same went for the gyrating likes of Patricia Field, Richie Rich, and Suzanne Bartch.

Jones descended in a glass elevator into the yacht's packed interior, and immediately nabbed the spotlight along with H&M models and DJ Michel Gaubert. Delighted scenesters like Isabelle McNally, Eric Wilson, Michael Carl, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Stefano Tonchi and Heidi Mount instantly fell in love again with the diva. Jones was in as fierce a character as ever. "I don't know where I am, is this New York?” she asked the carousing crowds mid-performance. “Are you f*cking sure this is New York?"”
