Chanel’s Art Picks

(NEW YORK) With the Tribeca Film Festival’s 2009 Artist Awards Program sponsored by Chanel, this year’s event is set to be chicer than ever. Stephen Hannock, Clifford Ross, Robert Mangold, Hank Willis Thomas, Fritz Chestnut, Mickalene Thomas, Kalup Linzy, Tom Slaughter, SunTek Chung and David Salle are the illustrious artists selected to participate (some, for multiple years in a row) by presenting a piece of their work to the filmmaker whose film is selected as the winner in its respective category. "Chanel is incredibly pleased to continue its support of the Artist Program for the fourth consecutive year,” said Chanel Global CEO Maureen Chiquet. “Just as Coco Chanel was a patron and friend of many emerging and well-known artists of her time, we are proud to continue this tradition through the Festival."

The French fashion house will show its support in several ways. The artwork (paintings, prints and collages) will be publicly exhibited for the first time at the Chanel Boutique in SoHo from April 16 to 29, where festival-goers and shoppers alike can view the works before they are awarded at the Film Festival’s awards ceremony on April 30. But before that, a Chanel dinner will draw the chic set to Odeon on April 23. Expect a Karl sighting...
