Beauty and the Babes
(NEW YORK) Cipriani 42nd Street was all about babies and beauty last night, as the glam set gathered for the March of Dimes 34th annual Beauty Ball. Hosted by Vanessa Williams with a performance by the Black Eyed Peas, the event honored Richard D. Beckman, president of the Condé Nast Media Group and chief marketing officer of Condé Nast, and William P. Lauder, CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., with the Beautiful Apple Award.
Of course, it being the Beauty Ball, Williams had time to dish on all things chic, starting with her gorgeous green Alexander McQueen gown. “I was shooting three videos on Sunday and this was one on the rack, and I thought, 'If I’m not wearing it today, I’m wearing it to the Beauty Ball',” she said. The stunning Ugly Betty actress denied being a true beauty junkie herself, though. “I’m not! I like my old standbys,” she said, citing Proactiv, Perfekt skin perfection gel, and Kiss Me mascara as her go-tos.
“This is my second year being the host,” said Williams, who’s been a longtime supporter of the March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. “As a mother of four who’s had really great luck, great pregnancies and healthy babies, to see a child who’s born under three pounds, the fact that they can actually live and survive and thrive is amazing. It just reminds me that I have to be thankful and remember that I was one of the lucky ones.”
