Karl's Front-Row Crowds
(PARIS) Milla Jovovich anxiously waited in the lobby of the Hotel Westminster for the arrival of her driver to whisk her off to the Grand Palais for Chanel's show. “I hope he gets here soon,” she said. “This is not a show that one should be tardy to.” Thankfully, she arrived on time. And the Fall show was not to be missed with its intricate maze set, parade of supermodels, seas of handbags, and Kate Moss in the front row. “This exactly what I’ve come to expect from Karl,” she said from her section B perch. “Grandiose, magical, and unforgettable!”
Keeping her company in the A-list section were Freida Pinto, Chanel veterans Olga Kurylenko and Claudia Schiffer, Gaspard Ulliel, Guli Karimova, Mario Testino, and Beth Ditto. “I feel like I’ve come full circle since being obsessed over everything by Chanel from lipsticks to handbags when I was younger in India,” noted Pinto excitedly after taking a look at her surroundings. “I mean, I got to meet Karl before the show. Who gets a chance to do that?” Kurylenko, who attended the couture show last season, mentioned that she was actually mid-production on her new film. “I’m shooting a movie in London right now and this is perhaps the best possible excuse to leave the set for a day and half,” she smiled.
The Donna Summer music began and the audience was suddenly entranced by the intricate maze set full of supers like Liya Kebede, Karen Elson, and Angela Lindvall. “We’ve had three solid rehearsals, so we’ve learned how to get around that maze!” assured Lindvall. And how did Karl Lagerfeld come up with this vision? “I’ve seen the space in my head and girls confidently walking in the criss-cross directions,” he said. “All I had to do was add colors like the pinks and the greens.” But how did he get inside of the structure for the finale? “That I don’t know and it’s a strange thing. It happens to me often early in the mornings,” he laughed. “I get into the middle of mazes and come out of completely nowhere!”
