(NEW YORK) “Ask 10 women what glamour means, and you’ll get 10 different answers,” Glamour editor Cindi Leive said. “Ask 10 women artists, and you’ll get 10 showstopping, brilliantly realized visions—some of them sweet, some of them shocking, but each one a very personal manifesto on the meaning of femininity in 2009.” In honor of the magazine’s seven decades of style, Leive did just that—and celebrated the ten artists’ interpretations at the Glamour Project fête last night at the Lehmann Maupin gallery. Nina Chanel Abney, Rita Ackermann, Sarah Charlesworth, Tracey Emin, Rachel Feinstein, Marilyn Minter, Laurie Simmons, Lorna Simpson, Mickalene Thomas, and Kara Walker all participated in the project, and their work, which will be featured in Glamour’s April issue, was viewed by starlets like Diane Kruger, Amanda Peet, and Ciara, designers Thakoon Panichgul, Jason Wu, Erin Fetherston, and Lela Rose, and the fashion flock, bien sûrWaris Ahluwalia, Tina Chai, Iman, and more. The show will be displayed through March 21.
