A Love Affair
(NEW YORK) "The heart is the only part of the body that doesn't need botox," joked Allure's Linda Wells, clad in Chanel and Lanvin, at the famed Oak Room at The Plaza Hotel on Monday afternoon. The editor hosted an intimate Valentine’s lunch in honor of Events of the Heart, a nonprofit organization that uses the arts and media to raise awareness about women and heart disease, the leading cause of death among women. Among the chic set was Joanne Lipman of Portfolio, IMG Fashion's Fern Mallis, Carolyn Rhea, Full Picture's Desiree Gruber, Lady Annabelle Astor and Jane Lauder. PR maven Peggy Siegal orchestrated the cast of leading ladies and worked the room in a stunning necklace and earring set by Iradj Moini, whose collection is conveniently available in The Plaza's retail collection.
A heart-healthy lunch of salad, baked halibut or artichoke ravioli and blueberry crisp was served while the ladies sipped prosecco and took in a monologue by author Abigail Pogrebin and a musical performance by singer Roz Davis Hurley and pianist Jim Davis. Jr. "We are art for heart," said Pamela Serure of Events of the Heart. "We put on dance, spoken word, acting, everything that has to do with women's stories." Each of the ladies received a copy of Serure's book, Take It To Heart, as they rushed back to their very fraught offices.
As for Valentine's Day? Rhea has exciting plans to stay home. "My baby is going to her favorite restaurant: me. I'm making something special that night for the two of us. I always say I've opened a small restaurant. I only have one client. She eats there eight times a day. Sometimes she throws up right after she's eaten, but she still comes back."
