The Dish on Defiance

The Cinema Society, Nextbook and the Observer host a screening of Defiance

(NEW YORK) Casts, families, and of course, the chic set coalesced Monday night for the Cinema Society's screening of Defiance, co-hosted by Nextbook and The New York Observer. To tell the story of the Jewish Bielski brothers who escaped Nazi-occupied Poland and started a community in the forest, cast members Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, and Alexa Davalos came out to the Landmark Sunshine Theater on the Lower East Side, where they were joined by the likes of [significant others] Naomi Watts and Satsuki Mitchell, Ivanka Trump, Andre Balazs, Rachel Roy, Tory Burch, Russell Simmons, Ellen Barkin, Martha Stewart, and Saffir regulars Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone.

"I think it's a story that need to be told and a story that needs to be known," said Davalos, who claimed to have not developed any crushes on her remarkably gorgeous co-stars. "Somehow!" she laughed. "I'm asked that often, I don't know how either! They're all geniuses, so that's first and foremost."

Craig shared his co-star's sentiments. "The reason we bring it to the screen is that it's an extraordinary story," he said. In light of the serious subject matter, which movie does he like making better: Defiance or Bond? "I like working!" he said diplomatically.

Schreiber and Watts, looking svelte and lovely despite having had a baby less than a month ago, could not stop gushing over new baby Samuel and his older brother, 18-month-old Sasha. "We like him just fine," Shreiber joked of Samuel. "He can stay," Watts added. They both claimed that Sasha got his good looks from the other: "Dishy. Is that still a word, dishy? I can say that about my son? The boy is really, really dishy. Really, don't you think Sasha's dishy?" "Oh, I think he's gorgeous," said Watts. Clarified dad: "Like you'd want to make out with him, that kind of guy." Despite the toddler's devastating good looks, Schreiber was hesitant for him to settle down too soon: "Sunday Rose [6-month-old daughter of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban] is after our boy really heavy, and I think it's kind of weird and early, and I think she should back off, slow down and get her act together before that all happens," he joked. "And [year-old daughter of Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher] Olive's been after our baby for a while too. They're going to take their time. They're young men, they live in New York, they've got the world in front of them, lots of things to do before they have to settle down. There's no rush."

At the after party at the Thompson LES, guests packed in to get out of the cold and warmed up with Grey Goose cocktails. Not feeling the cold was Jacobs, who was wrapped up in a fur coat, constant companion Martone, and the green and black version of his latest fave, Stephen Sprouse-print leggings. After revealing how many pairs he has (four) and in what colors (pink, day-glow green, and day-glow orange), the designer revealed his highly scientific strategy to picking which he would wear that day: "I wore the pink ones four days in a row, so I thought I'd wear the green ones today."
