Adrian Grenier hosts a benefit for charity: water at the Metropolitan Pavilion
Tuesday, December 16, 2008

(NEW YORK) Water, water everywhere--and only champagne to drink. The mood was festive at last night's benefit for Charity: Water, but attendees were serious about the cause: bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. We overheard lone host Adrian Grenier (Jessica Stam fell ill) field a 'loid reporter's relationship queries by explaining that "[founder] Scott Harrison and the charity are my only sweethearts tonight...my ideal woman would be involved with charities like this!" Perhaps his dedication to the cause was the reason he blanked out on the designer behind his sartorial selection for the evening. "I'm wearing...a suit," he explained. Uon further inspection J. Lindeberg was identified as the le responsable.

So what type of water do the celebs for the cause imbibe? "I drink New York City tap water," boasted Grenier. "I switch between Fiji and filtered," said Jenna Elfman, clad in Vanessa Bruno and carrying a Mary Norton purse. "Honestly, I drink whatever! In New York we have great tap water," exclaimed Richie Rich. "I'm not fooled by all that fancy designer water. We're lucky to have water!" He also confessed an affinity for summertime shenanigans: "I love water balloon fights! We used to throw balloons off our balcony in California."

Attendees also got the chance to lug two forty-pound jerry cans of water around a runway. For each walk, the charity donated $80 in the walkee's name toward the cause. Grenier graced the catwalk several times throughout the evening in a shameless display of physical fitness. Ladies were asked to remove high heels before walking due to some accidents last year, but certain dedicated chicsters stood fast and refused.

Whitney Port was in attendance, shooting scenes for her upcoming reality show The City--but she refused to pose on the red carpet or grant interviews. She did reveal, however, that her white sequined gown was by none other than the designer she's "working" for on the show, Diane von Furstenberg. After leaving the party, an MTV crew member was overheard instructing her to "Get off the phone, hail a cab, and get in." Micro-managed? Maybe. But the reality of the evening was, with more than a few stylish stars suffering sore feet from walking the rounds in platforms, maybe she had the right idea.
