Home Sweet Home

Calvin Klein Home introduces new furniture line at the SoHo Mews

(NEW YORK) As though it's not enough that Francisco Costa holds the power over our closets: the Calvin Klein empire has just introduced a line of furniture as part of the Calvin Klein Home division. The launch was fêted last night with a cocktail party at the Calvin Klein townhouse at SoHo Mews, a stunning apartment decorated, of course, in the chicest Calvin Klein style. President and ceo of Calvin Klein, Tom Murry, and Calvin Klein Home creative director Amy Mellen presided over the bash, where guests like Yvonne Force  Villareal, Eric Villency, Tatiana  Platt, Carlos  Mota, Andrew Saffir and Daniel Benedict sipped champagne, lounged in Calvin Klein chairs, and peeked around the impeccably decorated space.

"We've been in the home product business for quite a number of years, so we thought furniture was really important to round out the whole lifestyle assortment of products for Calvin Klein home," said Murry. "We wanted to stay consistent with the Calvin Klein DNA, which is well established. We've been working on this project for quite a few years, and it was one of the more complicated, difficult businesses to get into. It's probably had the longest gestation period of any of the 40-plus businesses that we're in, but I think it was well worth the wait." The furniture won't be available until January 2009, but Murry will wait: "I will have it in my home, for sure!"

Italo Zucchelli, menswear director for Calvin Klein, had his eye on at least on piece for his own home: "I love the bookshelves!" he said. "I'm a little obsessed with bookshelves, because I have a lot of books, so it's an important element." His assessment of the townhouse as a whole? It's beautiful! Very clean design, perfect for a modern apartment." Now, if only we could fill the closets with Costa's design, we would be right at home.
