Marital Madness
(NEW YORK) Wearing black to a wedding is a major faux pas, but that didn't seem to stop the attendees of last night's Cinema Society and Lancôme-sponsored screening of Rachel Getting Married. The film follows Anne Hathaway home from rehab to attend her sister's wedding, where all hell breaks loose. Hathaway, whose performance is already getting Oscar buzz, wore a black Marc Jacobs dress from his Spring 2009 collection--that graced the runway less than three weeks ago. "I think I'm wearing the shoes that were on the runway," said Hathaway as she glided into the Landmark Sunshine theater in the insanely high platforms.
The film's writer, Jenny Lumet, didn't quite have the same luck with her first choice of outfit. "I'm wearing a beautiful black suit from Theory," she said. "I was wearing a Gucci suit, but my 5 month old daughter spit up all over it."
Heather Matazarro opted for a chic little black dress by Trina Turk and arrived on the arm of musician Carolyn Murphy. Where would you like to get married, The Daily asked the duo? "Anywhere it's legal," said Murphy. "Right now, our only options are California and Massachusetts," said Matazarro.
Not everyone, however, is rushing to the aisle. Susan Sarandon arrived with partner of twenty years, Tim Robbins, and the couple sat next to Sigourney Weaver, who dazzled in orange and black Prada lace.
Following the emotionally-charged film, the attendees huddled under umbrellas and into waiting town cars for the short ride to the soon-to-be opened Cooper Square Hotel for the after-party. "It's an extraordinary film," Weaver was overheard saying to Hathaway. Sarandon echoed the sentiment, "I thought it was incredible."
Guests including Alan Cumming, Bobby Cannavale, Matthew Modine, Jill Hennessy, Beth Ostrosky, Georgina Chapman, Amy Sacco, Rachel Roy, Dennis Basso, Bee Shaffer, Nigel Barker, Meredith Melling-Burke, Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss, Eleanor & Jon Ylvisaker, and Daniel Benedict crammed into the hotel's lobby to nosh on passed hors d'oeuvres by Mary Giuliani.
Christian Siriano may have skipped the screening, but he still had time to dish on his own wedding plans. "I don't want to get married right now, but in a year," said Siriano. "I want all my bridesmaids to be supermodels. I just want to be in a suit, but I want the supermodels in haute couture gowns." And who could be the maid of honor? "Heidi, totally, Heidi."
