The Roof is on Fire
(NEW YORK) Nina Garcia's editorial clout was never more evident than Wednesday night, when Marie Claire fêted their new fashion director with a Fashion Week bash held atop Milk Studios. Garcia is expected to help carry the title to new heights; editor-in-chief Joanna Coles and Hearst's Cathie Black are banking on it. And Project Runway host Heidi Klum has no doubt Garcia will succeed. Klum stopped by to fête the editrix, author, judge and spokesperson with discriminating taste.
Publicists and executives from Prada, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Diesel, Victoria's Secret and more stopped by to toast Garcia. Even the Olsen twins were all smiles as they posed for pictures with Coles and Garcia. October cover girl Lindsay Lohan finally got a glimpse at her shot. "This is actually the first time I am seeing the finished product," said Lohan.
One editor who wasn't present at Milk was Elle's Anne Slowey, who waited in line for an inordinate amount of time outside the too small Mini Rooftop for the V Magazine party. She wasn't the only one forced to bear the crowds: Natasha Poly, who was slated to serve as a model bartender, was kept behind the velvet rope for several minutes before finally being ushered into the elevator. For those who didn't make it up, it was just as well; a better scene awaited elsewhere.
LL Cool J held court at the Bryant Park Grill, where Funk Master Flex spun for the crowd. A Chinese buffet was served on the terrace before the crowd gripped their gift bags, navigated the exhibit of LL's product for Sears, and moved on with the night.
Smart insiders headed over to the DSquared2 fragrance launch for the He Wood and She Wood, which was properly crowded in the best way possible. The roof was bumping with fans of Dean and Dan Caten. Marc Jacobs cozied up on the couch with Rachel Zoe as Cassie nibbled on veggie burgers. "This dress was a little longer but I hiked it up," said Cassie, who showed some leg in a DSquared2 dress. Dean climbed the fire escape to work it with the DJ, and editors breezed through for a flute of champagne, a whiff of the natural sweetness and a priceless panorama. Such is the view from the top!
