The Aftermath
(NEW YORK) In an ghostly alley located approximately north of East--yes, East--Broadway, a phlanx of fans surrounded Kate and Laura Mulleavy. Hours earlier, the sisters from Pasadena delivered their most accomplished collection to date, rendering one of the week's most heavyweight front rows speechless. A celebration is in order, n'est pas?
Moet to the rescue. The usual Rodarte crew--Cecilia Dean, Johnson Hartig, Hamish Bowles--imbibed, while the Mulleavys greeted guests outside. A-List alert! Keira Knightley, in town for The Duchess premiere, dropped by. But on to more important matters: The leggings! "They actually weren't laser cut, because that would've burned the leather," Laura said. "We made 40 pairs by hand, but only used 28 in the show." A gamine gal in a blue Rodarte frock stood nearby. "Have you met Joanna?" Laura continued. As in Newsom? That's her. The songstress hosted, but didn't perform--what gives? The Daily was bummed, but luckily, writerly type Miranda July was nearby keep us entertained. "The show was genius," we may, or may not, have raved. July said intelligent things about the collection, but it was after midnight, and at that hour The Daily abandons microcassettes on principle. The toasting continued until "really late." By the sounds of early reviews, it should continue chez Mulleavy until further notice.
