Rock Me, Sexy
(NEW YORK) Shakespeare love abounded last night, when Focus Features and the the New York Public Library's Young Lions hosted the premiere of Hamlet 2 at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. Movie-goers including Fran Lebowitz, Moby and Tom Colicchio even dared to danced in their seats to the movie's catchy tune, "Rock Me Sexy Jesus." One of the film's stars Phoebe Strole may not have starred in Hamlet--"But eventually, I got to play Ophelia," she said. "In a twisted sort of way."
Producer Eric Eisner wasn't exactly a theater kid himself. "My brother was more the buff," he confessed. "I was playing hockey." Lebowitz came to support her friend Eiser, and made some astute assumptions about the Bard's universal appeal. "Wait a second--is there a dissenting opinion on Shakespeare? I must have missed it. There are some things we agree on, but that's pretty much it in this country--Shakespeare."
Stacey Bendet also showed up towards the end to support her hubby, already having seen the movie six times. And it's Eisner's turn to support her now, with Fashion Week around the corner. "That's more important than everything," he exclaimed.
