The Cinema Society hosts a screening of Josh Hartnett's new film August
Thursday, July 10, 2008

(NEW YORK) Last night's Cinema Society screening of August had guests reminiscing about the bygone dot-com era, given that the film concerned two brothers (played by Josh Hartnett and Adam Scott) trying to keep their internet company afloat in the months before 9/11. Andrew Saffir hosted the viewing at the Tribeca Grand. "The internet thing was never really a draw for me," said Hartnett. "I'd rather be a rock star. I'm more interested in bands than I am in movies! My character is really the salesman--he can sell a refrigerator to a penguin. The trick with sales is that you're the one person in the world with all the answers--without being obnoxious!"

As for Susan Sarandon's internet habits? Turns out, she prefers another means of communication. "I text, because my kids really don't answer the phone. Do people just not know how to deal with each other on the phone anymore? Is that a skill you're gonna lose?"

Naturally, we wanted to know what Hartnett was up to, vacation-wise. "It's my 30th birthday!" he exclaimed. "I haven't had time to plan it! Someone should throw me a party." Count us in.

Despite the pouring rain, the skies parted for a perfect after party at the SoHo Grand Yard, where revelers like Charlotte Ronson, Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss and Dylan Lauren mingled with Harnett's close friends Kirsten Dunst and Michael Imperioli -- his neighbor and drinking buddy at Edward's. After hiding out with Jeremy Kost in the corner, munching on snacks of calamari and fried chicken, Julia Restoin Roitfeld posed for photographers who asked her and a friend to pose with the lobster rolls. "No thanks," she said. "I'll pass!" Any August plans? "Ibiza, all month," she smiled. "Though, once you're on a beach, it's all the same!"
