Life With André's Turbans
(NEW YORK) André Leon Talley has been sporting those ever-creative turbans at high-profile functions over the past few weeks. Simon Doonan's spoof of him at the CFDA Fashion Awards was even headline-making. Fashion Week Daily has learned that the Vogue editor-at-large, celebrated for his eyebrow-raising garb, has been receiving lessons from chic-Sikh hotelier Vikram Chatwal on how to properly wrap turbans. The two recently met at Chatwal's boutique Dream Hotel on West 55th Street, where Talley, in addition to gaining a pointer or two, has been documenting the experience for an upcoming "Life With André" column in Vogue.
Talley's latest journal entry came Tuesday, when he chronicled attending a fundraising cocktail party and dinner he co-hosted in honor of Michelle Obama. For the occasion, the larger-than-life fashion force donned a royal blue turban while Chatwal, who accompanied Talley to the dinner at Calvin Klein's home, wore a matching baby blue version.
