Home to Houston
(NEW YORK) Alexis Bryan leaves for Houston today, where she will wed New York Observer writer Spencer Morgan on Saturday in an intimate ceremony in her hometown. "I'm going today because we need to get our wedding license 72 hours prior," she said. "I'm a bit nervewracked."
For her special day, the Vanity Fair executive fashion editor has chosen none other than Oscar de la Renta. "It's a day wedding," she said of the knee-length white silk organza dress with taffeta embroidery from the recent Spring 2009 show--look #3 to be exact--that she chose after poring over a multitude of bridal looks. That's not to say some tweaks here and there weren't made by de la Renta himself. "Oscar came in [during a fitting] and said, 'It's beautiful! But we need to shorten the sash half an inch, add a little bustle around the tummy area, and make it a tiny bit longer,'" Bryan recounted, adding that she will not be wearing the feathered headpiece shown on the runway. "And he turned it into something even more perfect. The embroidery of this dress is exquisite. He's a master dressmaker."
Her simple accessories will include Oscar de la Renta heels and Cartier diamond studs (a recent gift from Morgan). The groom will don a charcoal grey Brooks Brothers suit.
Vogue editor Anna Wintour (the partner of father of the bride Shelby Bryan) is expected to appear after flying in from Miami following Thursday's Chanel cruise show. Honeymoon-wise, the couple will spend four days in Mexico. "Then it's time to go back to work!" she said. "I'm off to the Couture Jeweler trade show in Las Vegas."
