• Barracks, a retail installation by Greg Lauren

    2011 November 15

    Ten-hut!

    Barracks by Greg Lauren

    WHAT: Barracks by Greg Lauren

WHY: Wondering what the hubbub is all about at 125-127 Grand Street? It happens to be a temporary retail installation called Barracks by painter and designer Greg Lauren (yep, he's Ralph's nephew!). On display: a 30-piece GL collection of perfectly tattered and tantalizing trenches, suiting, jackets, and gowns crafted with repurposed military fabrics from vintage Army tents, parkas, and duffle bags. "I’m obsessed with our universal obsession with military clothing and this idea that everyone wants to look and feel like a soldier, without actually being one," explains Lauren. "[Barracks] is part fashion, part art, part store. It has meaning to me and hopefully brings meaning to those whose stories give emotional life to the pieces.”

    AVAILABLE: Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday, November 18, 2011

    Pashley Britannia Bicycle

    WHAT: Pashley Britannia Bicycle

WHY: Since Mother Nature can't decide, on a daily basis, if it's high time for an Indian summer or if the forecast should be full-on winter ahead, bitter winds and flurries galore, eke out the fleeting moments of the former and get pedaling! This Anglophile-apropos set of wheels by luxe bike purveyors at Pashley has the most enormous, parfait wicker basket just begging to be packed with all the delicious edible (and imbibe-worthy) accoutrements of a late autumn picnic, and is available in shades of crimson, midnight blue, or cream. For those who delight in the authentic article, or the closest thing to it, the handsome set of wheels is a "direct descendant" (their words, not ours) of the brand's models from the 1920s. How quaint!

    AVAILABLE:
    $1,295, AdelineAdeline.com
