Another Wang Win

Alexander Wang wins Swiss Textile Award and €100,000 prize
Thursday, November 12, 2009
(NEW YORK) Alexander Wang's winning streak shows no signs of slowing. The young American designer has just won the coveted Swiss Textiles Award, which was granted tonight in Zurich. Wang, along with fellow nominees Ohne Titel, Alexis Mabille, Thakoon, Erdem and Peter Pilotto, presented a runway show to a panel of judges. Last year, Rodarte's Kate and Laura Mulleavy were the first American designers to take home the €100,000 prize--and went on to take home the 2009 CFDA Award for Womenswear Designer of the Year. Will Wang follow the pattern, given that he won this year's CFDA Swarovski Award? Stay tuned.

The Swiss Textiles Award is a prestigious competition orchestrated by the Swiss Textiles Federation that aims to celebrate designers on the verge of an international breakthrough.  Of the prize money, €10,000 is earmarked for the purchase of Swiss textiles, with the remainder used to produce upcoming collections. Previous winners include Raf Simons (2003) and Marios Schwab (2007). Special guests for today's event included these past winners along with the Mulleavy sisters and Isabel Toledo.
