Anya and the Queen

Thursday, January 08, 2009

(NEW YORK) British designer Anya Hindmarch, best known for her chicster-friendly handbags and shoes, has found favor with royalty--she has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen's New Year's Honours list in recognition of her contribution to the British fashion industry. "It is an unbelievable honor to receive an MBE," Hindmarch said. "I am so proud to be British and was very fortunate to be able to start my business in London. To go to the Palace and receive this award from our Queen will be a real 'pinch yourself' moment for me."

Hindmarch is not the only member of the chic set to be part of the Order of the British Empire; both Anna Wintour and Glenda Bailey have been awarded Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), a slightly higher rank.
