Miu Miu Closes Madison Avenue Store
(NEW YORK) Miu Miu opened its third location in New York last week, toasting its new flagship in the former Jil Sander space on 57th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues with a cocktail party attended by Ciara and Clare Danes, among others. While tourists are sure to flock to the midtown location, uptown aficionados must now travel several blocks south for Miuccia Prada's wares. Miu Miu appears to have very quietly closed its uptown boutique, formerly located at 831 Madison Avenue between 69th and 70th Streets. The store is devoid of merchandise or brand signage, and its location has been removed from the store list on Miumiu.com.
Miu Miu opened its first store in the United States in 1996 with the Soho boutique. (It was completely renovated in August 2007 to reflect the brand's new aesthetic.) The Madison Avenue location followed in 2002--a 5,140-square-foot space designed by Roberto Baciocchi. The Los Angeles location originally opened on Melrose Avenue in 1999, and was closed in 2004. Two years later, Miu Miu opened the doors to a 3,200 square foot shop on Rodeo Drive.
