Thursday, November 13, 2008
(NEW YORK) It's Simon Doonan's 22nd year bringing the holidays to Barneys' windows, and this year is shaping up to be more enticing than ever. Doonan and the Barneys team will unveil the "Peace + Love: Have a Hippie Holiday" windows with a private shopping event this Sunday. To toast the 50th anniversary of the peace sign, Barneys commissioned designers and artists to create special pieces, like a custom-painted Goyard bag, Gilles & Brother by Philip Crangi peace sign-stamped bangles, a limited edition VW car and peace sign cufflinks, and more. Barneys also asked the children of the East Harlem School to create one of a kind art pieces in commemoration of the peace sign, which will be a sold to benefit the school. Five percent of the night's proceeds will benefit Earth Pledge: FutureFashion, and another five percent will benefit the VW Carbon Neutral Project. VW's participation in the event doesn't stop there: shoppers will be able to enter to win a one-of-a-kind new VW Beetle. Guest of honor Tom Brokaw will cut the ribbon, and Barneys is expecting the likes off Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, Philip Crangi, and the children of the East Harlem School to attend.
