Hats On!

Editorial favorite Amy Hamilton of Granville Millinery Company undergoes retail expansion
Thursday, October 30, 2008

(NEW YORK) Attention, Linda Fargo: There's a new milliner in town, and one that's sure to give the chic set plenty of inspired choices for the Central Park Conservancy's annual hat luncheon. Designer Amy Hamilton of Granville Millinery Company has been concocting her whimsical designs for over ten years, but for Spring 2009, her wares will be available to a much wider audience. Translation: This longtime editorial favorite of Harper's Bazaar and Vogue Italia is entering the wholesale business.

After graduating from the Columbus School of Art and Design, Hamilton settled into her 1859 farmhouse set on six acres outside of Granville. "I'm originally from Vermont, but after I met my husband in college, we just fell in love with Ohio," she said. "We dreamed of living in the country and renovating barns!" Both Hamilton and husband, a landscape architect, use such spaces on their property as studios. Their 14-year-old daughter Lillie models in the Granville Millinery Company look book, which was shot mostly at home and on vacation in Vermont. Wholesale prices range from $35 to $245

"Hats are definitely coming back, and until now, making them was my creative outlet while allowing me to raise my family," Hamilton continued. "I make everything myself, so it was really impossible to handle large orders, but now I've been training local sewing contracters. They're all lined up--and we're ready to move forward!"
