Jared Kushner's salmon-colored weekly to add a magazine
Wednesday, September 03, 2008

(NEW YORK) The New York Times did it and the Wall Street Journal followed suit - now, The New York Observer is joining the ranks of newspapers launching glossy style magazines. Intelligent newspapers can be smart, important and profitable at the same time, and now Jared Kushner is capitalizing on those fashion ising dollars in a uniquely Observer way. For the paper's first-ever foray into a fashion magazine, it has brought on some of fashion's most legendary characters. Freddie Lieba has been named fashion director, Marc Balet was named creative director, and Observer stalwart Simon Doonan will, of course, continue to add his two cents.

Observer Style will launch on November 19 as an insert to all subscriber and newsstand copies; the 80-page lifestyle mag will also be distributed in major four and five-star hotels throughout Manhattan. The biannual magazine, which will measure 8 ½'' X 11'', will be bound using 100 lb. paper for the cover and 80 lb. paper stock inside the magazine. Expect fashion and jewelry spreads, satires and irreverent commentary. Going forward, it will come out a week after Fashion Week and will discuss the collections and seasonal goings-on. Launch isers include Henri Bendel, TSE, Wempe and Ivanka Trump Collection.

In previous seasons, Kushner has sat front row at Max Azria and Narciso Rodriguez shows; perhaps this season the 27-year-old will grace a few more runways with his presence.
