McMullan Tell-All!
(NEW YORK) The highly-anticipated release of PMc, Patrick McMullan's new iPhone magazine created with new media company Hot Phone Hit Factory, is merely few weeks away. Naturally, The Daily wanted the dish from the photographer himself. Though the first bi-monthly issue will be available on September 8 for $0.99 on iTunes, we already know who will grace the first cover--Hana Soukupova, who currently has 387 images on patrickmcullan.com. That's 1,981 fewer than Tinsley Mortimer and 331 more than Coco Rocha.
The Daily: Why are you launching this?
McMullan: I have so much material, and I thought people would enjoy the stream of consciousness. When people are hanging out, they can check into it.
Why did you decide to make Hana your inaugural cover girl?
I ran into her and I took a wonderful photo. I like her and think she's a tough girl. Hana is very much a girl of our time.
Were the other women of Glamour Girls jealous?
I don't think many of them know about it! And there is always next week. Covers will happen naturally. I want them to be spontaneous.
Who has the most pictures on your site?
Someone said Tinsley Mortimer, but I don't know. I don't think about things like that. I just try and get the next thing up. I think in terms of events rather than individuals.
Have you ever been bribed to take someone's pictures?
They usually just tap me on the shoulder and stand in front of me until I take that picture. There aren't many bribes. I wish I could think of a good one! But I'm pretty easy. I'll take a picture of anyone.
What's the farthest you have traveled to shoot an event?
I just went to Shanghai for the international film festival in June.
Is there anyone you haven't yet photographed, but would like to?
Prince Harry and Prince William. I haven't seen them. They aren't around too often.
Anyone else?
I want to photograph Obama's brother. They found he has a half brother in Africa. You have to read the paper! If you miss a day, you wouldn't know Obama has a brother. He gets $1 a month. He's 25 years old or something.
Do you ever get bored?
I get bored with that question--I get that question so much! Everybody gets bored sometimes, but most events are over in couple of hours. How bored can you get in a few hours? When I look at Fashion Week, bored doesn't come to mind--but terror does. Who's gonna step on my toe? Whose toe will I step on? Whose name will I forget? Who will be insulted? Who will be mean? The usual concerns.
What are you doing this Fashion Week?
I try to go to as many shows as I can, but I do Full Frontal Fashion Party Flash, so I go to the best parties and talk to the biggest names--and the biggest names don't want to talk to me. It's one thing to have your picture taken and another to talk. My website is re-launching just before Fashion Week. It will be five times as fast and will make everyone's lives easier.
What else are you working on these days?
I have a few other books. I was going to launch one in the fall, but people have enough going on. I'm just sort of hanging with my son Liam, who is living with me. I'm trying to make sure he does what he wants. He's my project and I want to organize a big birthday party for him in October.
Can we come?
Sure. Why not?
