(NEW YORK) Vivienne Tam is taking her modern designs to the web by partnering with Stardoll, the online entertainment site for teens. Beginning today, Stardoll's 18 million members, comprised mostly of fashion-obsessed 9-17 year olds, will be able to purchase custom Vivienne Tam designs to help ensure their "MeDoll" avatars remain members of the virtual fashion elite.
Tam joins a growing list of designers that includes DKNY and marykateandashley, among others, who have already tapped into the market of virtual fashion, driven by young girls in search of a new outlet for retail therapy. "My whole family loves Stardoll -- especially my sister," said Tam. "She has an amazing doll collection and adores the virtual aspect of personalizing her own avatar in different clothing pieces and accessories."
Tam and Stardoll have collaborated to create a unique storefront to house her previous collections and all future releases, including her fall line that will launch later this year. Tam will also be coordinating a virtual design contest which will allow members of Stardoll to showcase original pieces created through the site's StarDesign application. The standout designer of the contest will earn the chance to meet Tam and tour her studio.
"I love seeing all of the different and unique "MeDolls" the users come up with," said Tam. "It's a fun and creative way to make your own doll from start to finish and is such a special way for aspiring fashionistas to express themselves."
