The Frost On the Cake
(NEW YORK) Lulu Frost, the high-end costume jewelry line founded by Lisa Salzer in 2005 during her senior year at Dartmouth, is about to delight bauble-lovers far beyond the well-stocked counters of Bergdorf Goodman. It's been a wild ride for Salzer, whose cornerstone pieces in the line include the letters and numbers from the doors and signage at the old Plaza Hotel. (She purchased them in 2006 at an architectural salvage firm.) This year, she collaborated on a collection for Chris Benz, marking her official entree into show week. Now, Salzer is taking Lulu Frost to the next level, attacking both the mass market and fine jewelry sectors simultaneously.
Lulu Frost Fine Jewelry is composed of 14-karat and 18-karat gold pendants that represent the Plaza room numbers. They will be sold exclusively at the Plaza's new boutique, which is set to open in September. When made in 18-karat gold, the numbers, which range from 0-9, will be studded with the accompanying number of diamonds. Pricing has not yet been determined, but custom orders will be available upon request.
On the mass front, Salzer has created an exclusive collection for Urban Outfitters entitled Secret Garden by Lulu Frost, a 5-piece collection composed of three necklaces and two earrings. "We're doing a lot of charms that allude to the theme, like a crystal ball, a bug, a leaf and a lock and key," she said. Pieces will retail between $18 and $48, landing in stores and online in November.
"I'm so thrilled to have the opportunity to make the Lulu Frost aesthetic available to a wider audience at an accessible price range," said Salzer, who recently moved her expanding showroom from her East Village apartment to a Soho loft. "My whole style involves mixing high and low, like wearing Lanvin heels with an Urban scarf, so this makes perfect sense."
