Facing the Music
(NEW YORK) Cartier, continuing to sing to a tune that's brought in more than $2.24 million for 16 global charities from sales of its Love Charity bracelets, has tapped eight musicians for the third installment of Love Day on June 19.
Janet Jackson, Fergie, Good Charlotte, Eve, Common, Hilary Duff, Emmy Rossum and Ashanti have been named Love Charity bracelet ambassadors. All will be on hand on June 18, the eve of Love Day, for a party hosted by Cartier North America chief executive officer Frédéric de Narp at the home of contemporary art collectors Maria and William Bell in Bel-Air. In previous years, Cartier threw the launch cocktail party at its Fifth Avenue headquarters, followed by an intimate dinner on the roof.
De Narp will return to New York the next day as he joins Rihanna, a 2007 Charity Love ambassador, to light the Empire State Building in Cartier red. Guest deejays will spin at Cartier boutiques in Atlanta, Bal Harbour, Beverly Hills, Chicago, New York and San Francisco. A playlist featuring each new Love Charity ambassador's favorite love song will be available for free download at www.love.cartier.com starting June 19.
"Cartier is thrilled to have the support of such inspirational celebrities that have joined together to raise awareness for important charitable causes," said de Narp, noting that the company aims to exceed last year's donations.
The new Love Charity bracelets are graced with the word Love and set into a knotted silk cord available in various colors, with each cord designating support for a unique cause.
This year's are a varied bunch. Jackson's gunmetal bracelet will benefit the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance; Fergie's orange style will raise funds for the Peapod Foundation; Good Charlotte's deep jade green bracelet will benefit the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation; Eve's peach one will benefit Women In Transition; Common's khaki bracelet is earmarked for the Common Ground Foundation; Duff's deep plum style will benefit Blessings in a Backpack; Rossum's pink bracelet will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Ashanti's royal blue style will raise funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The Love Charity bracelet is available for $995 at Cartier boutiques nationwide with $200 per bracelet benefiting its corresponding charity. Last year, the bracelets featured just one gold link and sold for $475, $100 of which was donated. On Love Day, 10 percent of all sales from the entire Love collection will benefit the partnered organizations.
Since the Cartier Love bracelet was introduced more than 30 years ago, it has become one of the most coveted jewelry designs in the world and the ultimate symbol of love.
In addition, all ambassadors who participated in the Love Charity initiative since the inception of the program in 2006, including the likes of Salma Hayek, Ashley Judd, Spike Lee and Djimon Honsou, will continue their involvement, with their bracelets available for purchase.
On a related note, Cartier has also added several permanent styles to its Love collection. In addition to a large diamond-covered pendant with the word "love" inscribed, they include bracelets and rings with colored stones, as well as a men's collection featuring a wide cuff with signature screw detail and a ring. Prices range from $995 to $6,750.
