Donatella's Starry Night
(NEW YORK) It's gearing up to be quite a year for Donatella Versace.
Between store openings and ever-expanding side projects, the platinum-tressed powerhouse is preparing for a busy week in the Big Apple this fall. As reported, Versace, who collaborated with Dutch artist Tim Roeloffs on a series of striking mini-dresses for the fall collection, is bringing her artistic prowess to Manhattan. A few weeks ago, the designer confirmed that Versace has signed on to sponsor the Whitney Museum of American Art Gala and Studio Party scheduled for October 20.
Now Fashion Week Daily has learned that Versace will receive the Superstar Award from the Fashion Group International at the 25th anniversary Night of Stars gala, which will take place at Cipriani Wall Street on October 23. The designer's late brother Gianni Versace received the same accolade in 1995, two years before his death.
Donatella joins a distinguished group of past recipients of FGI's top honor. Tom Ford, Nino Cerruti, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, and Neiman Marcus' Burt Tansky have all been given the award. Most recently, Jean Paul Gaultier received it in 2007 as part of night's celebration of "The Rule Breakers."
