'Tis the Season: Barneys

Holiday windows 2007
Wednesday, November 14, 2007

(NEW YORK) Barneys has gone green for Christmas with their holiday windows, designed by creative director Simon Doonan. The "Give Good Green" initiative will include "Rudolph the Recycling Reindeer", "The Twelve Green Days of Christmas," and "The Heroes of Green"--paying homage to everyone from Al Gore to Wangari Maathai--as well as artwork by children of Mother Earth, which is available for sale to benefit regional charities. The environmental awareness doesn't end with the windows, as limited-edition gift cards will be designed under the theme "Green is Groovy" and "Join the Green Revolution." Shopping bags will be recyclable for the multitude of green gifts that will be offered at the stores nationwide. And even if you can't get to Barneys to see the windows, the holiday catalogue will contain green, sustainable, and environmentally conscious gifts for your loved ones. Additionally, for each sale, a portion of the proceeds will go to charities like The Climate Project, The Natural Resources Defense Council, and amfAR. Not to mention that 25,000 trees will be planted by Barneys. According to CEO Howard Socol, "Our motto is 'Taste, Luxury, and Humor'. We thought it was time to add a little charm and levity to this important issue."
