(SAVANNAH) John Galliano, who was due to receive the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Savannah College of Art and Design this evening at its annual student fashion show, has sent word via his spokesperson that he is unable to attend. "John Galliano is sick with a 104 degree fever," said a spokeswoman for SCAD, who relayed the unfortunate news from Galliano's Paris liasion to guests during a luncheon SCAD president Paula S. Wallace was hosting at her home this afternoon for press, faculty, and other guests.

Galliano, who presented his Dior Cruise 2009 show in Manhattan on Monday, is recovering in New York at his hotel room. Talley, however, is expected to be on hand for this evening's festivities. Joining him as a representative for Galliano will be Katherine Ross, senior vice president of public relations and communications for LVMH, as well as Olivier Bialobos, VP of press and international PR for Christian Dior.

Bialobos released a statement which stated that Galliano had become ill Friday night and, as a result, was not able to travel to Savannah. "John was honored and proud to be given this lifetime achievement award," Bialobos said. "He is devastated and disappointed not to be able to share this honor with the university, students, and André."
