Oscar de la Renta's Uptown Move

(NEW YORK) Oscar de la Renta has had a change of heart for fall. The designer confirmed this afternoon to The Daily that he will be moving his show from the Bryant Park Tents to 583 Park Avenue at the corner of 63rd Street, where his recent resort show was staged. The venue, a former Christian Science Church, is now a fully operating event space. The date and time of the runway show-September 10 at 1 p.m.-remain unchanged. "Oscar was really pleased with the resort venue and made the decision to have his spring show there," said a spokeswoman for the designer, who also noted that no venue plans have been finalized for his Fall 2008 show in February. The spokeswoman also could not confirm the exact number of seats that will be available in the new space (de la Renta had 969 seats when he showed at the largest venue, The Tent, at Bryant Park), saying, "It does accommodate a little less than the tents." A spokesperson for IMG Fashion, which produces Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park, said, "Oscar de la Renta has shown with us for years and though he will be missed, we wish him every success in his new location and look forward to welcoming him back to the tents very soon."
