Those Fickle Fashionistas
(LOS ANGELES) Proving that the fashion industry can be as fickle as the weather of late, Soapnet and Disney's Buena Vista Productions today announced that CosmoGIRL! will replace Jane magazine in its reality series, The Fashionista Diaries. The series, which began production in May, captures the drama as six assistants try to make it in the competitive fashion, beauty, and publishing industries. The aspiring publicists from Jane magazine, Flirt! Cosmetics, and fashion public relations firm Seventh House PR are chronicled putting together a fashion show and after party for Charlotte Ronson during New York's Fashion Week. The two assistants from Jane magazine, Rachel Jacoby and Andrew Kanakis, will now be reassigned to CosmoGIRL! and will work for editor in chief Susan Schulz. Jane magazine will be featured in the first six episodes of The Fashionista Diaries and the magazine's closure will be covered on the show.
"When real life interferes with reality TV, it makes for great television," said Deborah Blackwell, general manager of Soapnet. "No one could have anticipated that the closure of Jane magazine would become part of the show's plot and that we'd have a new player enter the scene." Hearst is hosting a private screening and reception toasting the series Tuesday night in Manhattan. The series is scheduled to premiere on August 1.
